The VimpelCom Group consists of
telecommunications operators providing voice and data services
through a range of wireless, fixed and broadband technologies. The
Group includes companies operating in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine,
Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Armenia, in territories with a
total population of about 340 million. The Group companies provide
services under the "Beeline" brand. VimpelCom was the first
Russian company to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange
("NYSE"). VimpelCom's ADSs are listed on the NYSE under the symbol
"VIP".
The VimpelCom
Group's license portfolio covers a territory with a
population of about 340 million. Geographically it covers
78 regions of Russia with about 140 million people,
representing 97% of Russia's population as well as the entire
territories of Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan,
Georgia, Armenia as well as Vietnam and
Cambodia.
As of June 30, 2008,
VimpelCom's total number of active subscribers in Russia and the
CIS was 53.8 million (including 42.5 million in Russia, 5.0
million in Kazakhstan, 2.7million in Uzbekistan and 2.1
million in Ukraine).
On February 29, 2008 VimpelCom
completed a merger with Golden Telecom, a leading facilities-based
provider of integrated telecommunications and Internet services in
Russia and the CIS.
In July 2008
VimpelCom signed a joint venture agreement to launch a GSM
network in Vietnam and acquired a 90% stake in Sotelco, a company
holding a GSM license for Cambodia.
VimpelCom was the first Russian
company to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in
November 1996. Its ADSs (American Depositary Shares) are traded
under the symbol "VIP".
