Watanuki faces challenges in every area. Spirits chase him, his best friend Doumeki isn't really a friend, and his boss Yuuko seems to have mistaken him for a servant come housewife. When Yuuko requests that both of them join her in accepting a special invitation to a collector's house, he can just hear the trouble coming. Upon arrival, the house proves to be more than a bit unusual, and the other guests are almost scary with their fanatical collecting. But, the worst thing about the situation is the knowledge that for all the weirdness Watanuki can see, it is absolutely certain that the mysteries are way more complicated that he thinks. Depending on Yuuko's arcane knowledge may be the only hope.
Chihiro and her family are on their way to their new home, when they discover an abandoned amusement park. After Chihiro's family mysteriously turn into pigs, she is thrown into a surreal world of magic and fantasy. Join her as she struggles to survive in the bathhouse of the gods, ruled by an evil witch who has stolen not only her name, but her way back to the real world.
From the moment the characters of these two movies step thru the doors of apparently common places : a house and amusement park respectively, they find themselves taken away to different worlds. They can get out only after discovering the secrets of these places and of the creatures that inhabit them. If you like mysteries and fantasy then you will surely enjoy these movies.
The xxxHolic movie is like a grown-up version of Spirited Away. They are both supernatural stories set in a crazy-awesome enormously cool building (either a mansion or a bath-house) filled with all sorts of oddities. Also: people eating like pigs.
Makoto Konno is a somewhat foolish and tomboyish high school student who spends most of her time hanging out with her two male friends. Things change one day when she suddenly gains to ability to leap through time! At first, she uses her newfound ability to do things such as preventing her sister from stealing her dessert, cheating on a test, and singing Karaoke for 10 hours. However, the small alterations she makes to the timeline turn out to have unforeseen consequences that snowball into dramatic and lethal situations for her and those around her...
Both of these movies contain a mystical plot and some unexpected turns that seem almost impossible unless you see it for yourself! See if you can understand the magic before the end!
Near the ruins of an old and abandoned city, there is played a game simply known as "Otokoyo." It is said that when children play this game, they go missing one by one. Some say it is ghosts. Others say it is demons. But for Hikora, one thing is certain: his sister disappeared playing the game and he will do whatever it takes to find her, even if it means playing the game himself. He and seven others will do just that, all for their own reasons, and learn that rumors aren’t always fictitious. Escaping with their lives will become the main concern when this game of hide-and-seek turns deadly.
Kakurenbo and the xxxHolic movie are sort-of-thrilling and definitely creepy stories about a group of characters in a giant, sprawling, ornate and creepy-awesome maze-like structure. I got really similar vibes from each, though I vastly prefer xxxHolic.
Demons are escaping from the underworld, and causing much havoc on the population. Possessing both human bodies and artifacts alike, the demons are inconspicuously forcing people to commit murders; the demons must be stopped! The task of returning – or exterminating – the offenders lies with Enma, Kapaeru, and the talking witch hat Shapoji; can Enma and the gang banish the demons before things get out of hand?
XXXHOLiC movie and episodes 3 and 4 from Demon Princ Enma seam to have a very similar story, and it reminded me of the book "Ten Little Niggers" by Aghata Christie (a very good criminal thriller). Surly DPE is much darker then HOLLiC, but the resemblance is obvious. You should definitely check the other one if you liked this one.
P.S. Both of those shows (HOLLiC Movie and the last two episodes of DPE that is) suffer from overuse of (medium quality) CGI. But you should be able to bear with it (unless you like stuff like that).
